It's Time for GiveAway #3 - Small Storage Solutions for the Quilt Room
Proper storage and organization in any quilt/sewing room can make the difference between being able to walk in and be creative, and having to walk in and search for the tools you need.
So today's Giveaway is all about small storage solutions for your quilt room! And the giveaway is made of up three small storage items I thought would be useful to anyone who quilts and/or sews.
First is this adorable (and useful) durable tabletop organizer by Mackinac Moon. It's perfect to place on your sewing table to hold your thread snips, seam ripper, wooden iron, small ruler, pencil, etc. It has 3 exterior pockets on each side and stands 9.5 x 9.5 overall. The best news - it folds flat when not in use -- so it's perfect to take to your next quilt class so you don't lose your personal notions.
Next is a Bobbin box by Dritz. It holds 32 machine bobbins. The clear lid allows you to see what color bobbins you have inside. No more bobbin-tangles!
And last is a Storage Gift Bag from QuiltCare. This 100% cotton bag is the perfect way to store and protect your quilts - or to use as a gift bag for a special quilt present. The size of the bag is 18 x 22, and will hold your lap quilt, crib quilts and up to twin size quilts. The outside of the bag has a label area for you to either describe the quilt inside or use as a gift tag to the gift's recipient.
HOW TO ENTER:
Please leave a separate comment for each entry, and make sure your email is available!
First (and this is required), leave a comment to this post telling when and why you first started to quilt and/or sew.
Second, post about this giveaway on your blog, and leave a comment saying you've done so. Make sure your blog address is available!
THE RULES:
The Giveaway will close at 12:00Noon EST on April 10, 2009. The winner will be selected by a random-name selector program called "The Hat" on April 11, 2009, and notified by email. The winner will have 72 hours to respond to the notification email with their mailing address. The GiveAway IS open to everyone, including international readers.
Good Luck!

Number one rarely wins, but oh well, I'm here...
I first started to sew because at the time it was frugal to do so. Patterns were inexpensive and so were most fabrics. My very first sewing experience was a maternity shirt! Can you believe that? for a first project? Well, I did make it and I wore that thing out...this was 30 years ago. My mother always told me, if you can follow directions, you can do anything, so I wasn't intimidated by sleeves or buttons etc....Ignorance is bliss they say!!!!!! Well, those were very lean years with hubby unemployed half the year, so I moved on to baby clothes and then a baby quilt to give as a gift. It was cheaper to buy the fabric and make a quilt than to buy a gift I guess. I designed my own first quilt using triangles and gingham....TRIANGLES... Ignorance is truely bliss!!!! You know I made quilts for everyone's baby and never one for my own kids....I had six! How pitiful is that? But I felt I was giving a gift of quality and love. My grandchildren don't go without is all I can say!
Those tools are great. I could certainly use that bobbin box...
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I started making quilts 5 years ago with some encouragement from my mother in-law. I have been addicted ever sense. I have over 40 quilts done so far.And 35 UFO's. Please enter me in this fabulous drawing. holly@fabricmom.com
Just posted on my site about your give away.
I am about to become a newbie to sewing. Just bought a machine, and am excited touse it to make my girls' clothes from now on. It's a lofty goal, but I'm motivated!
I started to sew because my Barbies needed clothes and my mom had a new Elna and everything was polyester knit so it didn't fray. Forty years later I'm still sewing on an Elna, but now I'm sewing lovely cottons into quilts.
I started to sew in 8th grade and then started to quilt 10 years ago..
I first started quilting two months ago :) My best friend is having a baby, and couldn't find crib bedding that she liked. I made her quilt and crib bumper. Now, I'm in the middle of quilting two other quilts! It's a blast!
I'm giving away a doll quilt this week:

Why I learned how to quilt---to make a quilt for the baby boy I was expecting. My grandmother taught me how to actually do the hand quilting part only. I had to learn how to piece all on my own. I am so glad I did.
Just posted about the giveaway on my blog.

Hi, Joan!
I started sewing costumes for dance recitals - tutus and tap outfits. I then have over the last 25 years sewn Halloween costumes - both kids and adults, formal dresses for proms and weddings, made bridal veils, and some home dec items. But the best is the quilting that I began in 2002!
I came by sewing through my maternal grandmother. She sewed & I wanted to sew (and crochet), just like her.
For as long as I can remember I had "material" as the first item on my yearly Letter to Santa.
Needless to say, my oh-so-practical mother never fed the compulsion when I was young. . .which is why my sewing area has exploded! he he he

I really hope I win!! he he he
thanks for hosting such neat giveaways!!
I started sewing clothing in junior high school. My grandmothers both quilted and I would watch them until I finally got bit by the quilting bug in 1982 when I made a quilt for my daughter. paweis@yahoo.com
I took a quilting class 25 years ago at a craft store. But what really gave me the bug was when my sister in law showed me how to make a quilt using the quilt in a day method. The rotary cutter revolutionized our quilting, and we have been at it ever since.
I started quilting as a preteen. My aunt made beautiful quilts and I just had to learn. It was so relaxing to just sit in the evenings and sew.
I started quilting after I saw a cute scrap quilt pattern in a magazine and since I had lots of scraps from sewing clothes I decided to make the quilt for my 2 year old daughter with scraps from her little dresses.
I loved the whole process so much I have never stopped quilting, over 25 years now!
Sue Cahill (sbonetsue at yahoo dot com)
I started sewing mostly for home dec, and then after my son was born I started sewing things for baby and reading blogs...which inspired me to quilt!
I started sewing when my baby girl was born 34 years ago! I made her adorable long dresses with matching bonnets (circa Little House on the Prairie). I started quilting a few years ago and I love it. Especially applique.
I would love a chance to clean up and organize. Not that it would ever happen, but maybe this time, if I won, I might get motivated.
thanks for the chance!
Wow, messed up that comment, so here goes again. I started quilting just over a year ago. I felt called to make quilts for an orphanage in Kazakhstan while at church one day. I didn't quilt because I didn't have a quilting machine. I could sew the tops, so I was a topper at the time, but not many of my tops ever made it to the quilted stage. Since January of 08 I have made about 150 quilts! When the Lord calls you to do something, He gives you the ability to get it done!
I started quilting because I had done lots of other sewing, and became enamored of cutting fabric into small pieces and putting it back together. I have been quilting for about 15 years.
Thank you for the great giveaway!
I started helping my grandmother cut squares and other pieces when I was a teenager and have always wanted to start quilting now as an adult. I am ready to begin and would love to create a quilt for each of my 2 children. I'd like them to help me like I helped my grandmother.

I suppose I started quilting/sewing about 5 years ago. Can't remember when, but can remember why. Lots of cotton dresses, skirts, blouses and trousers that DD had grown out of. I was loathe to give them away as some of the colours are gorgeous, as are the patterns. A friend suggested I made a quilt for DD out of her old clothes. I did and haven't looked back!
I learned to sew as a little girl, about 8-10 years old...making clothes. But now my quilting additions is 3 years old and I blame my great friend Sally...I am learning as I go and you can read about it at my blog firesidequilter@blogspot.com
I could use any of the items...
Do I have to leave post to be entered for each item?
I have entered this site on my blogspot...

I started sewing because of my grandma. She had given me some quilt toppers she had made. I wanted to turn them into quilts. I found a Singer sewing machine at a yard sale for $5 and set about teaching myself to sew. I made a few pillows and stuffed animals. Then I did turn one topper into a quilt. Since then I've made several baby quilts and blankets. For the quilts, I like to use receiving blankets as my material. It's so soft and I can pick up new or like new ones cheap at yard sales. I also made a full sized quilt for my sister.

I've been sewing since I was eight years old, but I started quilting after my daughter took a class to make a doll quilt. I just fell in love with all the quilting fabric and I've been hooked ever since.

Great Giveaway, I posted about it on my sidebar.
I started sewing in the 5th grade summer, wanted to make my own clothes and Mom didn't want to really show me due to her not going by a pattern. She said if you want to learn, sit down and read the pattern and learn that way. So I did, so appreciate her for doing that. I haven't stopped.

I first sewed in Middle School Home Ec class, so I was about 13. Then in 2004 (30-something), I took a sewing class with the local parks and rec to refresh my skills from middle school! But then moved a lot, so I have been sewing now more full time since 2006!! I love quilting!!!

I started sewing as a middle schooler many years ago but quilting is another story! When my daughter and husband decided to adopt a baby girl I started making a small quilt to welcome her. It has grown in the past three years to almost full time quilting!

I started to sew in school when we had Home Economics. I always sewed but my real passion is quilting and I didn't start that until after I retired. (about 4-5 years ago) Now that's all I do.
I love everything about it including new gadgets, rulers etc.
What a great give a way.... I have been sewing since High School.... but,,, that is a long time ago... but, I started to quilt in '92 and I have not stoped... I enjoy is so much and will keep doing it for a very long time... Now, that I am retired I can do more quilting... Thanks and I hope you put me in the give a way.... Jean M.
My mom taught me to sew when I was very young, making doll clothes, which natutally evolved into making my own clothes and then clothes for my children. After my children got older and moved on I started making quilts and have been addicted to quilting ever since.

I learned to sew in Home Ec because I had to, but now, 20 years later I sew because I love to! Mostly, I sew clothing for my girls and handbags, but I just finished my first quilt and am planning the next one. thanks for the giveaway!
I took home ec in 9th grade as a requirement. While I ejoyed it I did not do any sewing after that.
I learned to quilt b/c my mom really wanted a handmade quilt and I was out of ideas for her for christmas. So, I hit out in the furnace room cutting fabric and sewing on her Kenmore when she was not home. 20+ years ago and I'm still making quilts.

I learned to sew when I 9, (56 yrs. ago) and had the best dressed dollies of all my friends. I started quilting when I broke my leg & in a wheel chair in 1994...15 yrs. ago, and now have OQD...Obsessive Quilting Disorder.

I was always so thrilled to sit with my grandmother and watch her sew. The crafty gene skipped my mother completely so I looked forward to summers with Gran. I still call her regularly for sewing tips and tricks (even if I already know the answer... or could Google it) :)

Hi Everyone,
I did not pick up a needle and thread until 8 years ago. I am now 44. My mother is a awesome sewer/quilter but i never really took an interest. she had my family over for dinner and she showed me a project she had done. it was around valentines day. While she was cooking, I asked if I could go "play" in her studio. she kind of chuckled and said sure. Well I opened a simple block book and grabbed some fabric and made a heart block and even birthed it with hanging tabs. I brought it upstairs and my mother almost fainted. I was hooked, and it brought my mother and I to be best friends. check out my blog at http://kellieannsquilting4ever.blogspot.com/ I'm just learning this blogging thing so bear with me.
The first time I sew and quilt was about 7 months ago, started with hand sewing first. last month I bought my first sewing machine. Why I learn to sew & quilt? I was amazing to see a beautiful wall hanging quilted at my friend's house. After that I often pictured that beautiful art work in my mind. So I pushed my self to learn straight sewing first then step by step learn more. Some of my blogging friends always help me a lot in these learning process. When I'm looking back now, it's hard to believe I can sew and quilt so far.

I've been a garment sewer since I first took sewing lesson at a Singer dealer back in the early 60's. And had all four years' of high school home ec. When my daughter was born, I sewed for her too. Then the granddaughters came along and I sewed for them.
I realized that soon they were going to be big enough not to need as many things and I knew I didn't want to stop sewing. So I've been teaching myself to quilt. I'm just about finished with my first wallhanging, and I'm so pleased with how its turning out. We live in a small house so I don't have a big sewing room, its actually more like a wide place in the hall way between the kitchen and the back of the house. Anyway, I don't think I want to work on full size quilts but rather enjoy the smaller projects like tablerunners, baby and lap quilts. Those I can handle, anything bigger I would have knock out some walls to have enough room.
Thanks for this opportunity to share my new "love"! Chris

I was drawn to sewing back in junior high school in the days of home economics, however didn't really become serious about quilting/sewing until this last year when I became a mom! I love making quilts and handbags...sometimes the occasional baby items as well. Thanks for the opportunity to win some great giveaways!

I love the organizer. Great, great idea!
I started seriously sewing about the age of 11. I wanted to start making some easy dresses for myself. My mother had made all my clothes until then. Of course, I wanted to sew when she sewed.

I just added a notice (ad) of this giveaway on my blog. I just have to get a camera or learn to use SugarBuger's (dh's). My blog is so boring with any pics. The only ones I have are ones I've swiped from other sites. You may check that I did add it to my blog. http://suze-gahouse.blogspot.com/

I posted twice - once telling when I started sewing and the other to tell that I had posted about this giveaway on the blog. I needed to post three times - once for each giveaway - I thought it was once for one of three requirements. Regardless, this is my third posting. Good luck to everyone and thanks for such a wonderful opportunity for all of us.

I first started sewing after taking a Home Eco class in jr. high. I had a really great teacher who taught us everything required of the course and more. Then I feel in love with fashion which soon lead to a fabric obsession. And of course you know that lead to quilts, what else is a girl going to do with all that fabric. :)

I first started to sew when I was about 12. Most of what I learned was on my own and from school-my mom couldn't stand the thought of sewing! (Still can't!). I'd wanted to quilt since I read the "Little House" books but didn't get brave enough until about 15 years ago. I love it!
